Setup cannot continue. The value in the .SIF file is corrupt or missing

Hi,

Everytime I try to install a fresh copy of XP home with
SP1 on my desktop, I get this message:

"The following value in the .SIF file used by setup is
corrupted or missing:

Value 0 on the line in section [SourceDiskFiles] with key
SP1.cab.

Setup cannot continue. To quit setup, press F3."

Can someone point me in the right direction? How do I
overcome this problem?!?

Thanks,
Mike

I assume it's a clean install on a newly created
partition.

Clean the cd with a soft cloth,no static or fizz. wet one
corner to losen and grime., but no pressing or bending.
Dry well. Buff with sloth.

Clean CD-rom drive.
Make sure it is designed to go UDMA speed, if not use PMI
mode. (The jummper on the back - some say mode setting.

These install errors are mising reading the packed files
and when tjey uncompress there is garbage.

OR

You have some bad sectors on your disk. Start up the CD
in recovery, and load cmd console by pressing r.
enter ADMIN password when asked.
do a chkdisk /p cmd (Assuming it is partitoned.
If not then use other tools to diagnose disk, like Data
Lifeguard for Western Digial.

or

At install time,
create two partitions,
one about 2 GB and the other big for the OS.

Install on the second Partion and call it C:

The install and os will miss the bad sectors.

GL, :)
