Settinp up windows 2000 server on Raid Drives

N

Nathan

I just bought an e-server with mirrored 80Gb drives. I
will be putting windows 2000 server on the machine.
I have never done an installation from scratch using a
raid drive. Can someone let me know the steps I need to
take to set this up or point me to a resource where I can
get help.

Any help provided will be appreciated.

If the mirror has not yet been built, you'll need to enter controller bios
to build the raid-1. Consult your raid controller manual for the steps to
enter bios. (usually <cntl>A or <cntrl>H or some other key combo at POST)

Once the mirror has been built boot the Windows 2000 setup disks or CD-Rom
and *F6* very early and very important (at setup is inspecting your system)
in the setup to prevent drive controller detection, and select S to specify
additional drivers. Then later you'll be prompted to insert the manufacturer
supplied Windows 2000 driver for your raid controller in drive "A"

If you wait and then S to specify additional drivers, then it may be too
late as Windows 2000 Setup at this point may have already assigned the
resources your drive's controller is wanting to use.
