settings lost on log off

Hi

I have XP clients connecting to a 2003 server with roaming profiles
configured. Each time the client logs on the following occurs:

* windows media player reverts to its 'first run' configuration and
displays the welcome screen when it is executed
* the microsoft satisfaction survey icon re-appears despite having been
cancelled during the previous session
* internet explorer gives the warning messages for things like cookies,
autocomplete and ssl despite them having been cleared with the 'do not
display in future' checkbox checked

As far as I can see the profiles are being correctly saved to the server
as the desktop is persisted and other things like the start menu
settings are saved but obviously other settings are being overlooked and
not saved. Has anyone experienced/solved this problem?

Thanks in advance

Graham

I have a similar problem on my sbs 2003 server. The XP desktops do not
retain any settings unless I give the user domain admin privileges, which is
not ideal but helps, until I find a proper solution

Thanks Rob

Even when I log in with domain admin privileges my settings aren't saved
so you are doing better than me ;) Hopefully somebody will be able to
point us in the right direction here...

Have you looked at the policy setting under group policy management on your
server.
under computer settings - windows settings - local policy - user rights
assignments.

To see if any restrictions have been placed on the users.

Also a reboot of the desktop helps after changing permissions.

Hi Rob

I seem to have fixed the problem although I wouldn't say for certain at
this early stage. I have changed the Application Data folder redirection
(which wasn't configured previously) to 'Basic...' and 'Redirect to the
local user profile location'. I was working on the assumption that all
of the settings that weren't being saved would be stored in the
Application Data folder or the Registry. So far it seems to have fixed
the problem.
