settings and files transfer wizard

I just purchased a new computer and I'm trying to use the
settings and files transfer wizards.

When I tell the computer to start the process, it says
it's working for about 8 hours before I finally shut them
down.

The old computer is on Windows XP Professional. The new
computer is on Windows XP Home.

I've never used the transfer wizard before, so I might
just be doing something wrong. I hooked up a serial port
cable to the back of each computer and I didn't think I
needed to do anything else.

Thanks for any help available!!!

I assume that the two computers have a network card (NIC)? Why not just
network the two computers together and create a share. You can then save the
Files and settings to a file on the local computer and copy the folder
structure to the new computer. Then run the Files and Settings Transfer
Wizard and point it to the files and folders that you just copied over.

Your problem is that your using a serial cable! The SFTW produces a *.dat file that can be as much as 150Mb in size and it needs at least 2/3 times more space on the restore

Your trying to pull over all that data with a very slow cable, if you've got a network connection use a cross-over cable or other high speed connection

Failing that Just use SFTW to transfer that data your really need and filter out the excess area's especially media and audio files

Hope that Helps
