setting up "mail" on my new laptop

I ONLY want to use the "mail" program when I write/send emails.
I however do NOT want to download any emails.
How do I set "mail" up this way? I use gmail.

Go to Tools | Accounts | Add | Mail and then add your mail account and
supply the appropriate server names and passwords, which are supplied by
gmail. Then under Tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties uncheck the option
to include that account when receiving mail.
