Setting Out of Office Assistant in advance

Is it possible to set up the Out of Office Assistant to be active during
certain dates in advance? It seems that you can only turn it on and off, i.e.
it comes on immediately and doesn't go off until you turn it off. This is
very inconvenient as you have to remember to turn it on just before leaving,
and turn it off as soon as you get back. Other applications such as Lotus
Notes allow you to set it in advance which makes much more sense.

No you can't but it is a much requested feature and the Outlook and Exchange
devs are aware of this.

For now you can only create a rule that acts when mails are received in a
certain time span.

This is such a ridiculous joke. I have to remember to click out of office,
the very last thing before I leave for vacation, when I'm trying to remember
everything else I have to take care of, and not while I'm actually sitting
down and planning my time off on my calendar? How about this - I want a
setting for my calendar items that shows time as "on vacation." When I add
this setting to a calendar item - it triggers a rule in my mailbox that
automatically replies to messages during that time with an out of office
message that I've written. Now THAT would be useful.

What version of Exchange do you use?

Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 SP2 and Outlook 2003 sp 2. I have the
same issue as Dave. I try to rush out of the office, but I have to
turn on and off a million things before I leave.. update the
sharepoint calendar, update the outlook calendar, outlook out of
office, and voicemail. Not to mention, I also need to finish my work
before I leave!! It would be easier to have the outlook calendar to
somehow interface with the out of office email to get it to
automatically enable when I have vacation scheduled, rather than have
to turn it on before I leave. Plus my manager wants us to have
everything enabled for out of office if we are visiting the doctor in
the morning or something.
