Setting global folder options etc

Also I would like to set global folder and directory options- ie I want
this view (list detailed) across the board... How do you do that?

In Windows Explorer:
Change any settings in one (1) folder to your liking.
Click Tools | Folder Options | View tab
Under "Folder views" click [Like Current Folder]
Click [OK]

All other folder views will now match the one you changed.
