Setting Delegate Access to a Distribution List in Exchange 2003 Server

AJ

Hi,

I am wondering if anybody can help. I have created distribution groups
in Exchange 2003 Server / Windows 2003 Server. These work fine for the
purpose of e-mail distribution to the members of the groups.

I am now trying to assign these distribution groups to individuals
calendars through the delegation tab in outlook (the idea being to
ultimately give all users read access to all users calandars). I can
add the dist group in and set the permissions okay but then when I try
to access a persons calender that should now be accessible I just get
an error saying the mailbox can not be seen. If I select a single user
from the global address list delegation works fine so I know this bit
works !
I have read that there is a problem with setting Delegate Access to a
Distribution List in Exchange 2000 Server (Microsoft Knowledge Base
Article - 289916) is this the same issue with Exchange 2003 ?
Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Are these straight distribution lists or security groups? I believe they
need to be security groups in order to be used for permission-setting (which
is what delegation is).

Hi,
Many thanks for the reply, the groups are set as distribution groups.
I will have to check but I don't think outlook was able to `see` any
of the security groups at the delegation tab, outlook only seemed to
list all the entries / users contained in the Global Address List
(which is where our mail enabled distribution groups are also visible
from). If I select a single user from the GAL and give them delegation
in outlook to my calender then this works fine.
Thanks
AJ
