SET***.tmp under WINDOWS\SYSTEM32

Hi, I have been running out of space on my C:\ drive. I see a lot of files
called SET***.tmp under C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 , does anybody knows what those
files are?
Any help will be appreciated.

Use SysInternal's (now owned by Microsoft) FileMon program to see what
process writes to those files. Use its filter to restrict watching to
just those files.

I don't know if it is the only source, but IE 7 (if you've installed that)
creates and uses such files during its install, some in C:\Windows\System32
and some in the \dllcache folders, as you can see by looking at IE7.log in
C:\Windows (opens in Notepad). You can see whether any of them match.
You could move them to a temporary folder, then if nothing breaks over a few
days of normal use, you could delete them. Maybe the cleanup at the end of
the install did not delete them.

If they are *.tmp and don't hjave today's date, you should be able to delete
them. Try zipping them to a file and see if anything goes wrong over the
next few days. If not, t hen blow them away.

This won't cure your running out of space though, I don't think.
