set default email

I am trying to set the email default on my computer...however the choice I
want to use is not one of the choices...how can I add that choice to the list
of options...thanks

Is it a Web-based e-mail account (accessed via Internet Explorer), like
gmail.com? If so, you can't add that as a default. But it looks like the
only Web-based e-mail that you can add as the default is MSN/Hotmail. I
haven't tried that yet though.

If you're using MS Outlook you just add the email acct from the
Options->Mail Setup tab under the Tools menu then hit the "Set as Default"
button.

Outlook Express is probably similar.

I think he means the program (not account) that is displayed in XP Start
menu right underneath Internet. You set that with the Set Programs Access
and Defaults item or from the properties of the Start button. I don't have
an answer, but I wanted to clarify the poster's actual intent. (And
hopefully I got it right!)

Hey, maybe I do now, sort of. Take a look at the registry key
HKLM\Clients\Mail. Looks like your mail client will have to provide a .DLL
that can be called by Windows. There's probably a standard function name
that needs to be exported, so if your mail client doesn't offer that you may
be out of luck. I'm not sure where you'd have to go to research this, but of
course Google would probably be a good start.
