Set a trigger on slide one that works for all slides?

I would like to do the equivalent of close captions by creating text boxes at
the bottom of each slide that only appear if I do something unique on slide
one. Yes, I could create a custom show with the close captions but it would
be "slicker" and more convenient if I could create a condition or set a
trigger on slide one that would allow the caption to appear on a slide only
if that trigger were clicked on slide one or, perhaps, by changing one thing
on the master slide before I ran the show.

This would be for a self-running kiosk, of course, because otherwise I could
simply create a trigger that would be clicking on the title or someting else
on each slide.

If we could have another placeholder text box on the master slide I could
just make the text the same color as the background if I didn't want the
captions, or a contrasting color if I did. Of course we can't add
placeholders on the masterslide.

This would be pretty easy with a macro, but I don't think there is any
native functionality that would do this.

On my site, I have some examples that hide and show objects on slides but
not an object on every slide. The difficulty you will have is that you
don't have an extra placeholder, so you can't easily tell which shape to
hide and show on each slide. All the shapes will have to have some
identifying characteristic (you could give them the same name or put them
in the exact same location on the slide and use the coordinates to hide
them ...).
