Services no longer functioning after SP2 install

I was running a computer with SP1 and all the current critical updates,
Office 2003, Nero, Adobe Reader, and McAfee 7.1.

When I rebooted it took a long time to log in, and when I got to the desktop
my taskbar was gone (I could see it but I could not grasp it and view the
buttons), In local users and groups I could not open any of the users or
groups, in Services I could only see the services if I switched to standard
view, and then I still could not open up any of the services to view their
properties. When I look at the security settings of the drive the local
users show up, but the domain accounts will not resolve, and when I open up
more than one program at a time, the first program dissapears on its own,
although I can see it still running through task manager. Add remove
programs will not allow me to remove SP2, the installer service is not
running. Also I have the option to copy files, but it never gives me the
option to paste. System restore tells me it cannot restore the system and to
reboot.

So I guess you'll have no option but to format the drive and reinstall XP from
scratch.
Or maybe SP2 uninstall is listed in your XP directory??

I tried using the XP uninstall in every way I could, but without the
installer service running I cannot get it to go.

I tried rebuilding the machine, once with a slipstream sp1 disc, and again
with a regular xp disc, but once sp2 is loaded it crashes on me. I work for
a small government office and need to get this figured out before we can
deploy.
