Hi,,,hope you can help. I have the following problems in
xp home following downloading the latest ms upgrades and
downloading a freeware virus tool.

(1) am now missing the services.exe file...do i need
it....how do i restore it if i do?
(2) when trying to open .exe files. or opening desktop
icons, i get a "you do not have permission" error. In most
cases i can fix thgis by right clicking....clicking run
as..and clicking off the protection tab. How do i prevent
this?
(3) even when i do this....for some .exe's (not all) i am
told that the file cannot be found (although it has just
been downloaded\appears in explorer etc).

All in all, not a great day....

Hi, Lindsay. Actually, the services.exe file is associated with a worm,
so the antivirus program you got must have cleaned up your computer. It
just must have left a reference to the services.exe file in Startup. Go
to Startup>Run and type "msconfig" without the quotes. Find
services.exe and uncheck the box next to its name.

As for the problem with .exe files, whatever virus you had must have
damaged the association. Go to Kelly's excellent site and look under
"E" in the alphabetical section here:

Good luck,
