ServicePackFiles\i386?

When using a programme called EasyCleanër today to look for (unnecessary?)
duplicates, I found a large number of similarly named and sized files under
C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386.

Are these something left on the PC after the SP2 update, and can this folder
now be removed?

Regards,
Per Odegaard.

The ServicePackFiles folder is very vital, and should not be removed. Yes,
it does contain another copy of the system DLLs, that should not be deleted.
This folder contains files that are required when you add or remove optional
Windows components. This folder is also used by Windows File Protection
(WFP) to replace damaged or changed protected system files.

That folder is your original Windows installation - presumably you don't
have a Windows CD, or if you do, it was first copied to the HDD for
quick and easy installation and update/changes.

If you have the original Win CD, it is possible to delete the i386
folder and point to the CD, but every time you change a config, you will
have to insert the CD.

If you don't have an original CD (many laptop owners don't) then don't
touch that folder and tell easycleaner to ignore it.

| Thanks - then I'll leave these ServicePack folders alone.

That's why you DON'T use such software as EasyCleanër. Over managing the OS (when the OS
does it itself) can cause more trouble than you are trying to prevent.
