Service redirection not working

I have my XP Pro machine connecting to the internet, using windows firewall &
ics with service redirection on the internet connection for port 80 tcp. I
also have a server hosting web pages on the internal network. When I use the
internal addresses (ip,dns, netbios) on any internal computer, no problem.
However, when I use the public ip (no dns entries yet) it does not redirect.
I found this out by installing iis on the xp machine and when using the
public ip, these were the pages viewed. Can anyone help me out please?

That feature is called loopback (using the extrenal IP or doamian name from
your LAN) and isn't supported in ICS or most home routers, IIRC.

If you're just testing your web server then go to www.the-cloak.com and
enter you site address and that will contact your web serb from outside the
LAN.

Sorry to disappoint you phoenix, but I think that loopback is something else
entirely. For I can ping the public ip address from any machine on the
network and it turns out the setup I used was working, I just forgot to name
a file properly (.html instead of .htm). I had to setup the modem on the
server machine to work that one out. (argh still not working, oh change this
file, thats better :) )
