No place with any more information than rumors.

For example when will it be release...

Nobody, not even those at Microsoft, knows the answer to that
question. It wil be released when it's ready. Microsoft *expects* that
it will be in the early part of next year, but even they don't know
that for sure, and no planning date should be treated as a promise.

The title of this post might be outdated, but this website can provide a
bit
more detail of the SP:
http://www.microsoft-watch.com/cont...windows_xp_service_pack_3_not_until_2007.html

And that page is January 2006........well out of date.
The link Nepatsfan posted to the Roadmap is March 2007 and quotes 2008 for
SP3.
And to other readers and MVP's who are reading this is there any help for
this subject at
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...&p=1&tid=e15f268d-8b25-4bde-9a1d-0cd3ef166970

And what has that to do with a discussion about SP3?

Currently you will only find 'rumours' so they are not worth pursuing.
Before SP3 (assuming an SP3 is to be released) it has to go to beta testers
first. No such software is available to beta testers.

Actually, it is my understanding SP3 has been released to private beta
testers.

The fact of the matter is that only people who are in the know actually know
the specifics of SP3. If you are a beta tester or part of the microsoft
betat team then you are bound by a Non Disclosure Agreement and should not
be making the information public.

Hopefully, after it has been fully tested. In any case, I won't be an early
adopter.

Like for the next 2 monthly security updates to fix the immediate
problems discovered with SP-3. Make sure to configure the AU service
to *not* do the automatic download and install.
