Inthe Advance Systems Information in the Error Log I get the following error

"Service Control Manager The Application Management service terminated with
the following error: The specified module could not be found "

I have a Thinkpad R30 running Windows XP. The laptop shuts down suddenly and
I have to unplug remove the battery/power cord and then repower. It suddenly
shuts down.

When I click on Help and Support and then go to Tools and click on my
computer information it hangs and says Automation Server cant create object.

Could you please tell me what I should do ?

Thanks

Hi Vin,

Regarding the Application Management service: Make sure that the file
appmgmts.dll exists in the System32 folder. If not extract a copy from XP
CD.

%SystemRoot%\System32\appmgmts.dll

Ramesh,

Thank you so much for your help. I don't seem to be able to locate the below
mentioned file. I have a WindowsXP recovery CD. Could you please tell me how
I should extract a copy from the recovery CD. I have never done this before.

Thanks again for the response. I appreciate your help.

Vin,

You need a Windows XP CD-ROM (not a Recovery CD). In case of Recovery CD,
consult the PC manufacturer for selective installation / extraction of files
from the source. If you've applied a Service Pack after installing Windows
XP, you should be able to get the updated version of the DLL from this
folder:

c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386
