Server trying to send outgoing traffic through our Heartbeat (crossover cable) connection

We have 2 server on our Application Center cluster and we have an
interesting routing problem.... We have our heartbeat nic cards in each
server connected to each other via a cross over cable. The network config on
these cards is set up so that one uses 10.0.0.1 and the other uses 10.0.0.2
as an ip address. Each has the gateway set up as the IP of the other server
(for some reason we had to do this for the 2 servers to talk to each other).
The other Nic cards are set up with real world IP addresses. Everything
works fine (you can connect to the server from the internet just fine), but
the problem is that if you open a browser on one of the 2 servers it won't
connect to anything. But if i disable the heartbeat nic, go to a web page in
the browser, then re enable the heartbeat nic, everything works fine. It's
acting like it is trying to send the outgoing traffic thru the heartbeat nic
(for connections origination from the servers). Is there any way to tell it
not to do that or am i doing something wrong here?

Try adding the proper routing table entries manually at
the commandline. Type Route /? and get the instructions.
