server timeout problems

When moving files larger than 1 MB, I get error messages indicating "server
timeout." This happens

--when I transfer a file from a remote web to a web on the local HD

--when I import a file from the desktop to a web on the local HD.

Any idea why this happens/how to fix it?

Thanks,

Clem.

It's a known bug caused by a recent Windows or IE update.
The work around is to use Windows Explorer to move the files into the web,
then in FrontPage, run Tools->Recalculate Hyperlinks

Ron,

Thank you for your reply. The method works, with one problem: when I now
publish the web, FP tells me that the files are in conflict at the local and
remote web sites. If I choose "overwrite remote files," I get the timeout
message. I choose "ignore and continue," I get the same prompt each time I
try to publish the web, and this will get confusing after some time.

Any idea how to fix that problem?

Thanks,

Clem.

You did recalculate hyperlinks?

The large file problem sometimes affects publishing, as well as importing.
The answer here is to use FTP to upload the errant file, then open the
destination web in FrontPage and run Tools->Recalculate Hyperlinks.
In the local web, mark the large file as "Do not Publish".

Important Note: When using FTP in a FP extended web do not FTP any folders,
or any files contained in _vti* folders, and always recalculate hyperlinks
in the destination web.

If I remember correctly, in the conflicting files dialogue clicking "Ignore
and continue" will not publish the file, but it's been a long time since I
made that choice.

Ron,

That is helpful advice. Thank you!
