server extensions and sharepoint with frontpage 2003

Running Sever 2003 using frontpage 2003 . I am a little confused about
sharepoint that is available to server 2003 and the frontpage server
extensions. Do I need to use one of the other or both together? If I want
to keep track of things like a hit counter and forms that typically would
run with server extension, but I would also like to create discussion boards
that I understand you must use sharepoint. Do server extensions get
replaced by sharepoint? I'm just not sure how the two fit together - if at
all

Any help would be appreciated.
