Hi All,

I am currently completing an MCSE course and am having difficulty in getting
available resources, my question is i have a laptop and would like to know if
i would be able to install Server 2003 on it? This is obviously for
educational purposes, if so would it be feesable to dual boot so that it
could boot from either XP or 2003?

Any information would be very appreciated.

Kind Regards.

Hi,

Technically, sure, though laptops often require proprietary drivers of which
you may have difficulty finding for Server 2003. Otherwise, there is no
reason you cannot do it provided the hardware is at a sufficient level. You
may want to look into using Virtual Machines for these sorts of things as it
is far easier than dual booting.

Hi,

For your reference, we do have laptops (both IBM and Dell models with at
least 512MB memory installed) loaded with Server 2003 for demo environment
although applications and data in the demo environment are not working the
same as in the production environment.

We do not use dual-boot but that's just a choice for these machines are used
only for demo purposes.

Hope this helps.

LOL. I am not the OP that posted. I just made a reference that his name is
very similar to mine. His is Peter F. and mine is Peter Foldes

Peter:

IMO, if your portable runs XP w/o problems, you probably will not have
problems with Win2k3 Server.

My Dell C400 portable multi-boots between Win98 SE, Win XP Pro, Win2k3
Server, and SBS 2k3 w/o problems.

I use the NT boot loader (no third party products)
