Serious performance degradation after installing XP Service Pack 2

Hi,

I finally got around to installing XP SP2 and to my complete horror
application performance was signifantly affected after the
installation. In many applications this performance degradation is
manifested by a slow update of the UI. As example hovering the mouse
over a toolbar would take about a second for the button to appear
highlighted, or opening a window with a navigation bar would take about
3-5 seconds to paint the navigation bar groups.

I initially attempted to see what I could do to improve the performance
and disabled the firewall etc but to no avail. So I uninstalled SP2 and
once that was done everything reverted back to normal and the time
taken to perform the actions I mention above is way less than a second.

I have an IBM Thinkpad T42p if that will help.

Look forward to your suggestions.

Regards,

Victor Rodrigues

Did a defrag help at all? After all, SP-2 replaced LOTS of files all
over the place.
