Sending emails using Outlook or Outlook Express

I cannot send emails directly from either Outlook Express
or Microsoft Outlook. I am on BT Broadband. I have
tried contacting BT but have had no response.

When trying to send messages, this is the response:
The message could not be sent because one of the
recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-
mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'Read:
From Paula', Account: 'paula.',
Server: 'smtp.ukonline.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Server
Response: '550 relay not permitted', Port: 25, Secure
(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

I had this same problem with a cable company. I could
receive but not send using my mail server. BT is blocking
port 25 mail from other mail servers. For example if you
are sending mail using mail.msn.com as your smtp server,
that will be blocked. What they want you to use is their
server mail.bt.com or what ever it is, to send mail. Look
on their web site and see what smtp mail server they say
to use.

BT has dreadful support, in my experience. You need to make sure you're
using the right SMTP server for your account, and that if required, you have
set up your mail client to authenticate to the outgoing mail server.
