Sending an attachment freezes word

I Office 2007. When I am using Word and click to send a document as an
attachment to email, Word freezes. I am also using Outlook.
I do not have this problem if Outlook is open.
What can I do to change the settings so that I do not have to have Outlook
open to send documents as attachments?
Thanks in advance for all help.

Same problem.
Problems with Word 2007, Quick Books Pro , Brother ControlCenter3, Windows
Live Photo Gallery email subprogram.
There is a common thread to this problem, please follow my process of
investigation.
Open QuickBooks Pro 2008 >> email invoice >> no response >> task manager >>
shows not respondingprograms >> REBOOT >> open PSP11 >>
Email photo into Outlook – works=yes >> open QB Pro >> email invoice >>no
response >>
open task manager >> program not responding >> end task >> close programprogram running >> close WLPG >> open WLPG >> email photo into Outlook –
works=yes.
As you can see the only time the Quick Books , Brother CC3, or Windows Live
Photo Gallery will work is if you start the process in a program , close
the program and reopen the one of the programs; the program will work.
Corel Paint Shop Pro 11 will open on first try after a REBOOT. What link does
PSP have that the other programs do not have? Why do you have to open close
and reopen a program to make the program e-mail function work? Please note
Outlook 2007 works fine – no problems so far.
Foot notes:
NEW Computer - HP model # a6547c
Vista x64
Brother printer/scanner == MFC-5440CN
HP bios update – sp37528 installed
Brother software with ControlCenter3 - down load from website
Brother update – CC3update.exe
QB Pro – Amyuni_PDF_Converter_64bit

PPS: I just tried to email this letter to my brother and the Office
Word 2007 – send to email locked up.
Task manager – close program >> Open Word >> Open document >> send to email
– works=yes
Add this to the list of problems.

I had the problem of “Send to Email†locking up Quick Books, Word, Excel,
Brother ControlCenter3 and Windows Live Photo Gallery. What I found out was
it was a Microsoft corrupt file. The file was Windows Search. I use Windows
Vista Home Premium 64 bit, Office 2007, QB-08 on both of my HP computers that
were bought about six months apart. Both computers had the same corrupt file.
First use Task Manager to close out any froze programs.
To correct this problem-- Start Window -- Open msconfig-- click services --
scroll down to "Windows Search" -- uncheck box to disable -- check apply --
check ok -- reboot computer.
If your “Send to Email†works, the file was corrupt. If not, try unchecking
services in groups of 20 (make a log from where you started and stopped) and
reboot computer. Open WORD to send document by email. Do not use QuickBooks
yet, the services are off line. Progressively uncheck another group of 20.
Reboot and repeat the procedure. Narrow down the services until you find the
corrupt file that causes “Send to Mail†not to work. When you find the
corrupt file, recheck all the good services , leaving the bad services off.
Reboot and open WORD and “Send to Email†to verify that was the only bad
service.
From there you can determine if the service was important enough to keep off
or correct using the Vista reinstall DVD .
