Send To menu

Gary D.

I have modified my 'Send To' menu.

I have used the method involving setting it up via the Run command as listed
at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;310270
(I have found that the method suggested in the Windows help file system
doesn't achieve the desired result).

My various customized Send To items work okay but I notice that, unlike
Windows 98, the files I 'Send To' are copied to the target folder and are not
MOVED, so I end up with the original copy and the new copy at the new location
(a folder on the same drive and partition).

Does anyone know how I force 'Send To ' to MOVE rather than copy a file?

Or perhaps is this just another annoying feature of XP!

Annoying feature ? - How can you expect a "Send To" function to
perform something beyond it's designed intent. Pardon the acerbic
comment, but it's ANNOYING to responders when help is asked
for and then the OP adds the "XP doesn't do This-and-That".......

Well, er, actually I would expect new versions of an operating system
to behave in a similar fashion to previous versions in order to enable
easier transition between versions, for all users.

As I said previously, in 98 the Send To "moved" an object from one
folder to the next [within the same partition], or at least it does on
my PC. I think it quite reasonable to expect XP to do likewise. My
experience highlights otherwise and hence my expression of this issue
as a possible "annoying feature", a so-called "improvement".
I am sure that I am not alone in finding changes annoying when, after
years of familiarity, the end effect isn't as expected/experienced in
the past. I am all in favour of enhancements but I also expect an
element of consistency.

As to what is a "designed intent", well I would expect this to be the
same as I had previously experienced and not suddenly to change
behaviour, i.e the "intent" having changed.

PS. thanks for the link.

XP is a new version of the Windows NT operating system. The Windows/DOS
(Win95,Win98, WinME)lineage was killed off.

Agreed, but it is still Windows, if you see my point.

It DID continue the expected behavior. Unfortunately "Windows" is a
generic term and really doesn't play into it.
