send/receive

In outlook when I hit send/receive I dont get the status message at bottom
right of screen anymore (little hourglass, etc). Also when I go to tools -
options - mail setup tab...I click on the send/receive button to change my
settings but the botton wont respond and I cant get into my settings screen
 
Impossible to give you any answer. You failed to post your Outlook version.
