Send/Receive

Can't download (receive) messages from my server in Outlook 2000.
Outlook opens, and Inbox messages are displayed (these are messages already
there - not new ones). I click "send/receive", and the box just hangs there
showing how many messages are waiting to download, but stuck on receiving the
first message.

Also, can't open any Folders in the Inbox.

I can access new messages from the website of my ISP.

This problem happens at least once a month.
I start opening and closing files (i.e. Outlook.pst - which I still don't
know what this is for), and trying this and that, eventually everything
clicks in place.

Didn't happen this time.

Suggestions?

I don't think this is an issue with service from my ISP.
I can open Outlook.
I click "send/receive."
Messages begin to download, but hang up on the first one.
After a few seconds of struggling, the screen goes all white.

Also, I can't open any of my Folders in "Inbox."
This includes "Contacts"

When I go to my ISP's website, I can download any new messages (and reply or
send new messages) from that site.
