Send/Receive problem

I have an ISP that I'm checking for mail, but have no need to send mail via
that route. So in Options / Mail Setup / Send/Receive / Send/Receive
Groups, I unchecked the Send Mail Items checkbox. Unfortunately, Outlook is
still trying to send via that account, even after a restart of Outlook. I
have Outlook set up to check mail every 5 minutes. Sometimes, however, I
still click the Send/Receive button to send something that's waiting to go
out or to get an immediate check. Since Outlook seems to consider that a
"Send/Receive All", I expect it to check all groups, but to still honor the
settings about whether to send and/or receive on that account. It doesn't
seem to do that. Any suggestions on how to make it honor those settings
would be appreciated.

It's hard to determine from your post what is actually going on and what
indicates to you that it still tries to send through that account. Do you
get an error message? Note that if you still had something in the Outbox to
send through that account changing the option won't cancel the action.

Let me try to offer some more details . . . First, this is Outlook 2003 with
all SPs and patches. When I click the Send/Receive button, I see the
"Outlook Send and Receive Progress" form come up. It lists the tasks it is
trying to perform. There are three: Send for account 1, Receive for
Account 1, and Receive for Account 2 (not the actual names, but you get the
picture). This is exactly what I want. However, the strange thing is that
the dialog disappears (having done its job) and reappears just as fast and
this time it has four tasks: Send for account 1, Receive for Account 1,
Receive for Account 2, and Send for Account 2. Here's where it hangs. It
won't send on account 2 (I have only a forwarding service on that account
for the time being, which will be dropped at some point in the future). So
I end up with an error. What seems to be happening is it is sending and
receiving twice. The first time works as I want it to and generates no
errors. The second time adds in the Send for Account 2 and generates an
error.
