"Send" Problem in Outlook

This may be a bit off topic, but I'm going to give it a try anyway. I am
having problems sending (not receiving) mail with my laptop. Earthlink is
my ISP and they manage my domain. My desktop computer has high speed via
cable connection, and I use the settings for that in Outlook. However, when
I am on the road, and connected to wireless high speed at a hotel, I can
receive but not send messages because I have no valid outbound server via
that wireless connection. I can sometimes connect through the phone line
and send through the conventional "smtp" earthlinkoutgoing mail server, but
this is pretty cumbersome and not reliable.

Earthlink has been of little help in this matter, although they have
normally been very good over the years and I'm generally happy with them as
my provider. Their only suggestion is to go on the net and work through the
server. It just seems that their must be an easier way to handle this. Any
suggestions?

Earthlink may allow you to use their server for relay if you authenticate to
it, no matter where you're connecting from. Have you asked about
authenticated relay? A lot of ISPs are stopping even this, now - don't know
about Earthlink. Mindspring was always a lot nicer, if you ask me. But they
got Borg'd.

If not, find someone who will let you relay - I know several people who use
Dyndns' MailHop Outbound quite happily. It's not expensive. You can use it
wherever you are, if you authenticate to the server.

I had already gone through that procedure, but based on your reply, I tried
it again, and now its working. Must have done it incorrectly before. Thank
you.
