With Xandros Linux, the spellcheck in Thunderbird v1.0.7 works, but
is unbelievably slow. Takes forever for it to accept the
change/ignore input and to go to the next word. No problem in
Windows, MEPIS, or Ubuntu. Xandros itself exhibits no other
performance problems.

Don't even no where to start, and nothing that I found in a cursory
Google applied. Pointers appreciated.

Xandros isn't free, is it?
Xandros doesn't have user support? or forums?

You could use another distro, you could ask Xandros support, you could
ask in Thunderbird forums on http://mozillazine.org or Mozilla
newsgroups on news://news.mozilla.org, you could upgrade to Thunderbird
v1.5.

Yup. Open Circulation Edition.

Yeah, but you have to create an account and log in. Rather not.
Nevertheless, I've searched the site and found nothing on point. May yet
do that.

I'm running W2K, MEPIS, Ubuntu, and Xandros on this machine. I would
like to get to the bottom of this Xandros-specific problem, rather than
giving up altogether. While that is an option, it's not how I prefer to
operate.

See above.

Dun that. No replies.

Not yet available on the Xandros repos. Shouldn't have any bearing on
the problem I'm seeing anyway.

I've posted this query to several different forums and tech-oriented
newsgroups in the last 48 hours. Nothing productive has resulted. I
posted here in the hope that one individual in particular (one who
appears to have a great deal of knowledge about all things Mozilla)
might have an insight. He has posted elsewhere in this group since my
post was made, so I guess he's got nothing to suggest.
