Why does my PC start itself up automatically every Monday evening at 20:00
GMT precisely? I don't remember setting this up, nor can I find anything in
BIOS, autoexec.bat, config.sys. I have Windows XP Pro on Service Pack 3
(Build 2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.080814-1236).

Thanks in advance, anybody?

try looking in Scheduled Tasks, probably something set up to retrieve
updates for any of a variety of software

Bob I,
Scheduled Tasks is part of XP. Neither can run while the PC is off.
That would need a "Wake On Alarm Clock" feature in the BIOS
(which posaune could not find).

do you shutdown the computer, hibernate or put it in sleep/standby mode?
if it is actually shut off, there is a setting in BIOS for 'state after a/c
power loss'
that should be set to off, a power flicker could cause it...does the power
company have something programmed to happen at that time every week?
a shot in the dark, but have you disabled 'wake on lan' in the bios?
i would do a deep scan (in safe mode) also, with rootkit detection, just to
be sure

Since the original status of the PC is not stated, I'll wait to see what
the OP finds out.
