Selective internet connectivity issues - why won't most sites load

Hi all,

My computer has suddenly developed a problem where it selectively won't load
certain sites or services. Here's a brief list of things that work:

www.microsoft.com
www.facebook.com (front page only)
www.google.co.uk (no images)
Ventrilo

Nearly everything else won't work. Google Desktop, EVE Online, all other
web sites. Any idea what's happened? My ISP know nothing and cannot help.

Ought to mention, even its ability to load google.co.uk is intermittent.
However, microsoft.com and all pages contained therein load at full speed.
My Xbox is on the same network and has no trouble connecting.
