Selecting records and saving only those selected

I purchased a file on N/A, Tele #'s in excel. Some 16,000
records.
I used auto filter to hide all but those with employees
=,> than 50. I further selected on subsequent filtering
all controlers, treasurers etc. Then I made the file unique
(not showing any duplicates). After each selection I saved
the >49 empl records into a file by that name and then
used it to further select those others I named above. The
mystery is that the save or copy of those final records
worked sometimes and then did not work other times. I
wrote down the steps I took so that I processed each
selection the same way each time. Of the six files I did
Output, Treas, Gm etc, some are exactly what I wanted and
others have the hidden records still in the final output
file. I know that the OS and application software is not
too reliable but what could cause such a wide range of
output.

Has anyone found out how to get consistant resluts,
namely, to write the selected records, only, to another
file for general use(with none of the hidden records
contained therein).

Do you use multiple versions of excel?

If you autofilter a range in xl97+, then copy those visible cells, then paste,
only the visible cells will get copied.

If you do the same thing in xl95, then all the selected cells (hidden and
visible) get copied|pasted.

But you can limit the copy to the visible cells.

apply the filter
select the range
edit|goto|special|visible cells only

then copy|paste.

I'm not aware of any other problems with this kind of technique. You may want
to try it again and keep some notes so you can see if you did something
different between attempts.
