Selecting multiple items with the mouse only

To select multiple items in most programs, you highlight one of the items,
then hold the shift or ctrl key and select others, depending on whether you
want everything for the first to the last highlighted, or you want to pick
and choose.

How do I do this with the mouse only, not using the shift or ctrl keys? I
ask this becuase I was at a software demo and the presenter seemed to be
doing just that - he never touched the keyboard but selected several items
with the mouse only, and it wasn't by drawing a box around all the items.
He was doing something to each item and it got added to the highligted ones.

There are multibutton mouses (I like that plural ;-) that can
have buttons programmed to a key combination. I think I could
program my Logitech mouse to give me CTRL click tho' I have not.
Possibly, the presenter had done something like that.

You get mouses which have buttons, sometimes known as macros buttons. If
you have a mouse like this you can use the software that come with your
mouse to program the keys for specific functions.

You could also turn on "sticky keys" to keep CTRL on. Do a
search in Windows Help for just that! A toggle key combination
can also be set to turn sticky keys on and off.

Very good point.

When a shortcut requires a key combination, the StickyKeys feature let
you press a modifier key, such as Shift, Ctrl, Alt, or the Windows Log
key, and have it remain active until another key is pressed.

To activate StickyKeys
1.
Press the Shift key five times. A dialog box opens with instructions o
how to set up the StickyKeys feature.

2.
If you click OK, an icon (a group of squares) appears in th
notification area.

To turn off StickyKeys, press the Shift key five times.

OR
Control Panel>Accessibility Options>Accessibility Options|Tab
Keyboard- There is all the other accessibility options :)

I find myself its a pain in the ass when your doing day to day task
