When you click and drag the mouse to select more than a
page of text and/or graphics; Word and Excel scroll at
warp 9 !! and you overshoot the spot you wanted to stop.
When you try to go back s l o w l y it wont let you -
yeah warp 9 again! and you undershoot.

Click at one end of the desired selection. Use the elevator on the vertical
scroll bar to bring the other end in view and Shift+click there.

Use the keyboard instead of the mouse, you have a lot more control.
Position cursor at beginning of text you want to select, hold down the shift
key, then arrow down or page down to end of selection. Keep holding down
shift key until you have all the text selected - use right/left arrows to
pick up single characters, home/end to go to beginning/end of lines. Once
you get the hang of it it will be much more user friendly than selecting
text with mouse, no matter what version of word you use. DW
