select multiple contacts

I have worked on individually selected contact in phone view for 2 hours
(5500 Contacts) and forgot to hold the CTRL key, loosing all of the selected
contacts. Is there a better way short of dumping Outlook and going back to
ACT?

I assume those 5500 contacts that you've individually selected were not
chosen at random?
Categorize your contacts or perform a search query to filter your contacts
and show only the ones you need.
