Seking recommendation for music-mix/CD-burning software

Hi,

I am looking for an inexpensive ($50 or less) or free (even better) software
which would allow me to perform the following:

- copy music tracks from CD to HD to CD in .WAV format;
- convert between .WAV, .MP3, etc formats;
- copy portions of a music track (e.g. start at beginning and stop after 1
min 47 sec, or start at 56 sec and stop at 2 min 00 sec);
- fade portions of a track (e.g. to make a smooth transition if I want to
chop off track ending/beginning);
- adjust frequency, volume to make tracks from different CD's sound more
uniform;
- optional: overlay tracks (to allow the next track to start before the
previous track completely fades);

I am a novice in this area (just want to make nice mixes of the CDs I own),
so a simple interface would be a plus. Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance,
Alek

CDex will rip files that way for FREE. http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/
- fade portions of a track (e.g. to make a smooth transition if I want to
chop off track ending/beginning);

Audacity is a free audio editor.

- adjust frequency, volume to make tracks from different CD's sound more
uniform;

CDex should handle that.
- optional: overlay tracks (to allow the next track to start before the
previous track completely fades);

If you are serious about burning audio CDs then you should check out Feurio.
Feurio can most likely do every thing you request. Feurio offers an UNLIMITED
trial period, but it's a steal at $29.00.
