Security Update trashes XP Home

Dave Kolars

Just got an automatic update announcement this a.m. from MS
-- Security Update KB832483 -- installed it, and chose not
to re-boot at the time as I was in the middle of many
things... about 4 hrs. later, the system is acting funny,
so I closed everything and rebooted...

All I got was a black screen -- no messages, no BSOD,
nothing. Tried booting to the last time I had a good log
on, same result. Had to restore the system to the point in
time before I installed the update. Now all is well again...

Don't know if this will affect anyone else, but thought I'd
post it just in case. DK

Dave;
It is normally best to reboot just before installing updates.
Then disable all unnecessary applications including antivirus before
installing.
Reboot when done.

From what you say, the update may not have anything to do with it
other than it was installed within a few hours of a hic-up.
