Security Templates on Windows XP Professional SP1 and SP2

Doug Fox

Are there any differences between the security templates on XP Professional
SP1 and SP2.

The security template customized for SP1 works fine, however, when it is
applied to a workstation with XP SP2, the administrator encountered access
issue to Logical Disk Manager, cannot enable personal firewall, saying
ShareAccess issue, etc.

Any suggestions/commetns are much appreciated.

Thanks,

I don't believe there is much if difference in the "security" templates
themselves other that a few security options for dcom and a user right for
impersonate user but there is quite a bit of difference in Group Policy
administrative templates for settings found under administrative templates.
The link below may help as it describes a situation where the Windows
Firewall may not work right and how to fix it if by modifying security
descriptors on the sharedacess service which is the Windows Firewall service
that may have been modified by a security template. It may also help to
check the logs via Event Viewer to see if anything helpful has been recorded
though you may want to first enable auditing of system events. Also verify
that services that each service depends on are started.
