security tab problems

I have 3 computers on a network.. All three run windows XP Porfessional
Service Pak 2. So far I have tried to share files on two of them. One sees
shared files on the other, but when i try and access that shared files on
the firt from the second I get a message that I do not have permissions to
access this machine and should contact the system administrator. This is a
network in my home and I have the administrator and only user. On computer
2 I can set permissions to files and drives though the share and permissions
tabs. However on the first machine there is no permissions button on the
share tab and no security tab. The same is true for the third computer.
All had dist and formatted for NTFS.

Can any one explain why the security tab is missing on two computers and not
the third and absent this tab how I can set permissions on these two
machines.

Thanks in advance

You have to disable simple file sharing to see the security tab. Go to
Windows Explorer/tools/folder options - view and uncheck the last option for
use simple file sharing. Then make sure that there are matching user
accounts on each computer using Control Panel or lusrmgr.msc that have the
same logon/password as the user that is trying to access the share. That
user would also need share and NTFS permissions to the share or be a member
of a group that does such as everyone, users, or a local group you
reate. --- Steve

Thanks for your help. Your solution worked. The security tab appeared and
this resolved a problem I was having with another computer accessing files
on this machine over a LAN.

Once again thanks for your assistance.
