Security Sandbox violation

Old Geaser

Hello,

Windows XP

Sorry if I am in the wrong group.

I have not seen this in this group before. Also have did a group search.
Have tried a web search and found several inquiries but no good answers. I
have both Adaware and Spybot that does not clear it or it comes back.

I have about 5 Yahoo groups. Almost every time I access them I get the popup
"Security Sandbox Violation". It has something to do with Flash player
debug console. The popup does not say what to do.

What is flash player and do I need it? I cannot find flash player in the Add
/ Remove unless it is Quick Time. The popup only comes up using Yahoo
groups, not other sites. Any Ideas??? Thanks in advance,

Flash Player is a plugin by Macromedia that does cool things on the web. There are other sites that use it. (lots of FIRST team sites and lego.com, for instance) Only remove it if it slows your computer down lots.

QuickTime is a media player by apple. It's for their file formats, such as mov. again, only remove this if it slows your computer down.

Neither of these programs are adware, spyware, malware, etc. No virus scanning tool is going to remove them.

I posted this elsewhere, but I'll repost it here to spread the word:

Like some of you, I just got this "security sandbox violation" problem
myself when on every third or fourth Yahoo! page. I ran three spyware
busting programs, to no avail.

So I took it to the next level.

Tools | Internet Options | Security
Changed to "High"

Then I tried to check my AOL Mail. Oops - needs cookies enabled.

Under the Privacy tag in Internet Options, I chose "Accept All
Cookies". It's as easy as that, right?

Wrong.

Wrote in the "aol.com" domain so that their cookies can be accepted,
that works, yes? No.

Meanwhile, I wasn't getting anymore of those cheesy "security sandbox
violation" popup windows under the "High" security option.

So I changed it one rung under to "Medium" and back the popup windows
come.

I tried one last-ditch option:

It's called "Custom Level".

Here's my settings, try to follow:

All five ActiveX options are on "disable"

I changed a few other things down the stretch, but they're basically
irrelevant.

The bottom line is, where I would have been getting a pop up window, I
now sometimes get an option box reminding me my ActiveX settings are
disabled. Which isn't as annoying, since all you need to rid that is a
tap of the space bar.

(I probably jinxed myself to high cyber heaven after telling you this
tip, and will be inundated with SSV's from here on out, but I just
thought I'd share...)
