Security Configuration

I have a W2K server that is being used as a routing and remote access server.
I have a service running on it called Security Configuration and Policy
Analysis. There are several services that are dependant on this service
starting, workstation and server service to mention two. I have another W2K
server that is a mail server and it doesn't have this service running. The
Security Configuration and Policy Analysis service uses scapol.exe. My
anti-virus software is showing this file as being infected. Can anyone tell
me how to re-install this service to get a clean copy of scapol.exe

This all sounds pretty suspicious. I'd flatten and rebuild the server.

I have a Windows XP machine with the Security Configuration and Policy
Analysis service listed to start automatically but it is not. When I
attempted to start it, the error message indicated that it could not find the
file. I confirmed that the file, scapol.exe was not present using a manual
search. Scapol.exe may have been removed due to an virus infection but, in
any case, it was not present. Because the Server and Workstation services
were directly dependent on it, I had a real problem. So I simply "broke" the
Server and Workstation services dependency on scapol.exe in the Registry, and
they are started and working OK. My system seems to be OK. I still do not
know the origin of scapol.exe or its purpose but my Windows XP seems to be OK
without it.
