Medas,

Does this large network have system admins? If so, this would be an excellent
question for them, since they're responsible for the network, and its security.

What do you want to do on your private network? Share files? Chat?

Are the two PCs running XP Home or Pro - there is a big difference. Also, is
the file system FAT or NTFS?

Please start with IPConfig listings for both pcs.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" into the command
window - Open c:\ipconfig.txt in Notepad, copy and paste into your next post.

Here are several websites with good tutorials on file sharing:

Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

You can use the Local Security Policy on each machine to remove or deny
local logon and/or network access to the machine by any and all users or
groups you want. If you disable NetBIOS on the WINS tab in Advanced TCP/IP
properties, you can prevent the machines from appearing in browse lists.
Not clear what you are trying to accomplish here.
