Securing a Database

Dave Stuart

In the startup options I have set the database not to show the database
window, not to allow full menus or menu changes etc. and too disable access
special keys

However people can still view the database window if the open the database
whilst holding down the shift key - is there a way around this so that even
if they hold down the shift key the database will open up to my specified
form in the startup options?

Thanks in advance!

There is some sample shiftkey code in the help that will allow you to
disable the shift key.

(careful, you don't want to lock your self out!).

Since the vast majority of my applications have some start-up forms, and the
ms-access interface is hidden, then I as a habit do hold down the shift key
to "develop" the application, and then often exit,a and re-enter to test in
"user" mode. On the other hand, I also always give users a mde file (and so
should you).

I have together a handy utility that lets you browse to a mdb/mde file, and
set/un-set the shift key code. Check out the sample in my downloads:

You also might want to secure the database since anyone can run my shift-key
code.
For a secured database, check out the follwing shift key info:
