Hello all together,

I have problems with getting my emails over Outlook 2003 outside of our
companies network.

We are using SecuRemote VPN-1 from Check-Point (www.checkpoint.com).

My colleguas are making their email traffics with outlook xp or outlook 2000
and they have no problems like me. We learned that it is no problem of our
SecuRemote-access. It must be a problem with Outlook 2003 and I am not going
to install Outlook XP because we didn't buy Office 2003 in order to use the
old office because it is incompatible with our network surrounding.

Is there anybody that is able to give me a hint?

I hope that it is only a kind of new security barrier of outlook 2003 or a
simple bug that can be fixed by a simple registry change.

Thanks.

Timur

Try setting Outlook 2003's authentication to Password Authentication (NTLM)
since I'm noticing a trend that 3rd party vpn solutions are having a hard
time with Kerberos authentication. (and yes, Outlook 2003 is the first
client that can support Kerberos authentication.)

To set the security, just right click on Outlook Today and select properties
| advanced and go to the security tab. Change the dropdown at the bottom.

Hi Patrick,

the problem is that I am unable to receive my office-emails at home or at
our customers. I'm working with laptop only and when I'm in the office I
only connect my laptop to the intranet and I can read all my emails (over ms
exchange).

When I (and also my colleagues) are on journey (99% of my time I'm not in
the office) we are connecting to the internet anywhere and we use SecuRemote
to get in our companies network and also whe are able to get our emails
thisway.

Usually we only connect to the internet, identify on SecuRemote and open MS
Outlook 2003. And the emails are received like in the office.

BUT:
In my case this is not working. I'm getting the message that my
exchange-server is not reachable. We checked this with our system
administrator and we are sure that the server is reachable and that Outlook
2003 is making a mistake or is blocking this server.
It is also possible to use the web outlook access but as you surely know web
outlook isn't as comfortable as the normal outlook.

I hope that you are able to helb me

thanks

Timur

Thanks for the hint,

I changed the configuration to NTLM. I'll try it today at home and tell you
tomorrow wether it works or not.

Hello neo,

very much thanks for your hint! It works!

I have several problems with connecting to ms exchange but it seems that the
server connection is a little bit instable. You are the only one that knew
the solution for my problem. Even our system administrators didn't know
anything about the Kerberos authentication.

Thanks again

watch for name resolution issues. (outlook 2003 leans heavily on dns) you
can add the ip address and host name of the exchange server to your local
hosts file to rule this issue out.

ps - not sure what version of exchange you are running against, but also
keep in mind that if connecting to exchange 2000/2003, that outlook 2003
will have to connect to the global catalog servers.

The name resolution is saved in the hosts-file (company standard).

What is the global catalog server? Is it important for me to know this.
Should I have to configure something else in Outlook to get the connection
more solid?

domain controllers have an option that can be turned on/off that makes them
a global catalog. a global catalog is what outlook will query when showing
the global address list, .etc.
