Second User logon hangs

Hi all! XP Pro and IESP2 - and a new install on a new hard drive......

I am having a problem with XP locking up when I log on as the User. The
Administrator logon always works fine, no problems. However, now and then
when I log on as the User it tries to load the profile and such, but, it
hangs at the screen....the one that looks like it's from the Sound of Music,
with the green rolling hills and all. It will stop loading and I can't
Cntrl-Alt-Del or Esc or anything at all to get it to shut down or close. I
have to do a power button shut down.

I tried to let it run for a good while to see if it would eventually load,
but, all it does is run the hard drive constantly. The green HDD light
flashes now and then like it's trying to do something, but, it just does
nothing. Thus, I have to do a power button shut down.

So far this is only happening in the User side. Usually when I am switching
from the Administrator to the User. I have done the Log Off's and using the
Switch button for the switching and all, but, nothing seems to make any
difference.

Is this a common thing that happens now and then? I'd truly appreciate any
suggestions or information on this.

Jan :)

Create a new user account, logon to that and see if XP starts without any
problems.
If it does, logon as administrator, copy any of your personal files to a
shared folder,
then delete the faulty account.

Hi pip22 :)
Create a new user account, logon to that and see if XP starts without any
problems.
If it does, logon as administrator, copy any of your personal files to a
shared folder,
then delete the faulty account.

I have removed and recreated the new User, and it is still locking the
machine when in the User logon now and then. Perhaps my series of exit and
entry are not correct. I notice that there are two selections when I log
off on way or the other. One is Switch, and the other Log Off. Am I
correct in my thinking that when you log off, the profile is saved, however,
when you click the Switch button to log on to go to the Administrator, it
does not actually log the User off, or vise versa? Could it be that I need
to forgo the Switch event and totally log off each time both ways? Could
this be what is causing the problem? I am a bit confused on how this works.

Thank you for your time and help, I really appreciate it.

Jan :)
