Second footer in same document

I'm trying really hard to understand section breaks! I created a next page
section break so that the third page of my document has a different footer
than the first two pages. I've figured out how to restart the page
numbering, but when I edit the footer, the previous footers changed to what
the third footer says.

You have to turn off the Same As Previous setting of the second
section's footer, by clicking the button (on the Header/Footer toolbar
in Word 2003 or earlier; on the Header&Footer Tools ribbon in Word
2007).

I must need stronger glasses -- I don't see the "same as previous" setting
you are referring to. I'm using 2007. When I click on Insert | Footer on
the ribbon, I get edit and remove options. What am I missing?

Got it. So, I have my three page document. At the end of page 2 I have a next page section. At the top of the third page I Insert | Footer | Edit Footer and type the new footer information. I then click "link to previous," and all three pages now say what just the third page should say. I'm still doing something wrong. Any idea?

You need to turn off "link to previous" in the section 2 header *before*
you modify the section 2 header.

HOLY COW! I got it. Talk about hand-holding -- thank you! I have to say, I love Word Perfect, but I am swearing less at Word 07 each day (and am glad that since I had to learn Word, that I started with 07), and am actually kinda liking it! Thanks again.

Oops! I spoke too soon. Dang. My first page footer reads ok, the second page footer reads what the third page footer reads, but isn't supposed to. When I click the same as previous button near the second page footer, nothing happens.

Maybe you chose "different first page" or "different odd and even"
headers/footers in Page Setup | Layout? Deselect if not needed.
