Perhaps you're running a pirated copy of WinXP. Check with whomever you
bought it from.

Be nice ,but forceful. Don't take any crap. Ask for a
supervisor if you have a problem. Ask for their name.
Remember it's their Activation scheme, not your's, you
paid now it's up too them.

Where did you buy it? Your recourse should be with the seller,
who may have sold you a pirated copy.

Are you trying to install Service Pack 1a and getting the
following:

The Product Key Used to Install Windows Is Invalid

You need to purchase and use a legitimate full retail copy of
WinXP Pro to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation,
using the new CD and Product Key.

Remember, you should also report whomever sold you the pirated
software to the pertinent law enforcement agencies; you've been
defrauded.

What does the error say?
Maybe you mistyped some of the letters or characters. Try it again.
Some characters can be misread as something else.
