Searching within non-indexed files.

I can't get vista to search within files that it doesn't recognize as
indexable, i.e. if i create a file called file.grg and put the word "greg"
inside it, my search will not find the file when searching for greg even if i
have always search file names and contents selected. But if i change the name
to file.txt it will (even if it is in a non-indexed lcoation.)

Hi, Greg.

While I'm certainly no expert on indexing, maybe I can help you find an
answer.

Click Start | Control Panel | Indexing Options. On this screen, click
Advanced. You'll need to have (or give yourself if you are an
Administrator) permission to see the next screen, with tabs for Index
Settings and File Types. On the File Types tab, there is a greyed-out
button at the very bottom that says, "Add new extension". In the box before
that button, type in "grg", then click the button.

Warning: This might cause Vista to have to re-do the entire index, and that
might take a looong time!

As I said, I don't know much about indexing, so please report back whatever
you try and what results you see. In a newsgroup, we all learn from each
other. We are a student one day, the teacher the next. ;<)
