In an earlier version of Word, when I clicked on the Open folder icon, a box opened up in which I could type in search criteria and then click the "Find Now" button. The result would be a listing of all of the documents containing the search criteria words in the document name. In Word 2003, the "Find Now" button has been replaced with an "Open" button, and as I type in the search criteria in the box, I am immediately presented with documents with those terms, but no real seaching takes place. Is the "Find Now" function not available in Word 2003? I know that there is a "Search" icon in the toolbar up top, but it takes very long to search. The old process was instantaneous.

Hi Dave

Yes, this functionality did change in Word 2002 and 2003.

In the File > Open dialog, with the cursor in the File Name box, try using *
as a wildcard, then press Tab. So t* will find all
files beginning with t. *ar* will find all the files containing the letters
ar.

This will search the current folder, but not other folders. For that you
need to use the Tools > Search functionality from within the File Open
dialog box. However, I find that very cumbersome, and for complex searches,
I tend to use Windows Explorer.

Hope this helps.
